This website, www.jewishrootstravel.com, is operated by Roots Travel Srl, trading as Jewish Roots Travel ("JRT", "we", "us"), Bucharest, Romania. This Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies on the website. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser, on the device you are using, and reads again on later visits. Similar technologies do the same job by other means: a "pixel" or "tracking script" is a small piece of code loaded from another company's server that records that you visited a page, and "local storage" is a space in your browser where a website can keep a setting. In this policy we call all of these "cookies".
Cookies can be set by us ("first-party") or by another company whose code runs on our pages ("third-party").
This website is deliberately simple. It uses two measurement tools, the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics, and no advertising network. Both tools run only after you accept cookies. The website sets only the following:

Two other services on the website do not set cookies but do receive your IP address when a page loads or a form is sent: Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces, and Web3Forms and Mailchimp, which deliver our enquiry and newsletter forms. They are described in section 4 of the Privacy Policy.
The Meta Pixel is a script provided by Meta. When you have accepted cookies, it loads on every page and sends Meta the address of the page you are viewing, the time, your IP address, and information about your browser and device. Meta uses this to show us, in aggregate, how our Facebook and Instagram activity brings people to the website. We do not use it to show you advertising, to build a profile of you, or to identify you personally; we see counts and page names, not individuals.
Meta processes this data under its own responsibility as well as ours. Its use of the data, including for its own purposes, is described in Meta's privacy policy. Meta is based in Ireland and transfers data to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
If you decline cookies, nothing at all is loaded from Meta and no data reaches it.
Google Analytics is a measurement service provided by Google. When you have accepted cookies, it loads on every page and sends Google the address of the page you are viewing, the time, the page you came from, and information about your browser, device and approximate location, together with the random identifier stored in the _ga cookie. Google uses this to give us reports on how many people visit the website, which pages and tours they read, how they found us, and which countries they visit from. The reports are aggregated; we do not see individual visitors. Google Analytics does not record or store your full IP address.
Google processes this data on our behalf and, for some purposes, under its own responsibility, as described in Google's privacy policy and its page on how Google uses data from sites that use its services. Google is based in the United States and is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Google also offers a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every website.
If you decline cookies, nothing at all is loaded from Google Analytics and no data reaches it. Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces on this site, is a separate service and does not use cookies.
The first time you visit, a banner at the bottom of the page asks you to accept or decline cookies. Both choices are equally easy to make. One choice covers both tools: accepting loads the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics, declining loads neither. Until you choose, nothing is loaded.
Your choice is stored on the device and browser you are using. If you use another device or browser, you will be asked again there. After twelve months we ask again.
You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of every page, or the button below. Choosing "Decline" after an earlier "Accept" stops the Pixel and Google Analytics from loading on any further pages; to remove the _fbp and _ga cookies already set, delete them through your browser's cookie settings.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser. Instructions for the most common browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. Blocking all cookies does not affect this website, which works fully without them.
We rely on your consent for the Meta Pixel, Google Analytics and their cookies, as required by the EU ePrivacy rules and Romanian Law no. 506/2004, and we process the resulting data under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. The consent setting itself is stored on the basis that it is strictly necessary to honour your choice. You may withdraw consent at any time as described in section 6; withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it.
If we add, remove or change a cookie, we will update this page and the date at the top, and, where the change means a new cookie that needs consent, we will show the banner again.
